Daniel MaldiniI’m all for voicing your opinion.
That’s all I did, homie
Keep countering, BG! Never said you shouldn’t.
Technically I still have a few minutes to counter this bid and he was my next target listed on the ole spreadsheet. But this comment provides me a unique opportunity to address late counters for anyone that sees this so I wanted to take it. I’ve always personally disliked “late” counters in general primarily because as a GM who has been countered at the very last minute before, it can cost one close to a full round of players, which for someone like myself, an avid amateur/fantasy-only scout for 10+ years, can be the costliest aspect of having to counter/move on a round later. Over the years, whenever I’ve see a bid made in the minutes or hours after making one of my own, I’ve always considered those bids “lost players” because I knew I wouldn’t feel good countering a previous day’s bid. And I say that as your peer and fellow competitor. And honestly, these are just my two cents, gents, but having said that, I think that any GM worth his salt, which I consider myself to be, should be able to move on to the next target rather than cost someone else a day’s worth of picks so that’s why I do. Again, just one GM’s opinion.
Obviously, late counters are legal and have been in the rules ever since I joined Effliga — that a free agent bid require 24 hours to pass. The only time I ever remember 24 hours not being required was actually the opening round of this transfer window when we happened to fall on daylight savings in the US so everyone got their bids in in 23. So, they are legitimate and legal counters. With that said, I have and will monitor for any… what I’ll call intentional fuckery when it comes to counter bids.
It goes without saying but I’ll say anyway that in the particular case of Blaugrana’s counter of JR’s bid, obviously there was nothing suspicious or wrong with that counterbid and is perfectly acceptable by liga standards and rules and all in good faith. BG has shown to be a more ruthless GM than others. But that’s life. Not all owners in any league are alike. You can have an Al Davis, you can have a Ziggy Wilf. (Sorry for you gents that don’t follow the NFL and probably didn’t get that.) But an example of that is James, who to this day I don’t think I’ve ever seen counter anyone’s bid that wasn’t originally his own, something he did even at the last minute with me one time. And the funny thing now is neither of us eventually even found the player worth the trouble, as tends to be the case with these heated bidding wars (tip of the cap to the Marley Akes of the world) but Kawai obviously did, got him and good for him for eventually landing Joachim Andersen, the player james and I made it all hot and steamy over once upon a time. But james is commendable nonetheless for always ‘staying in his lane’. My rule for myself has always been that I only counter when it’s my next pick and only within a quick timeframe but everyone is different.
Having said all of that, since there doesn’t appear to be any justifiable bidding war happening for him, congrats on a fine player in Zvonarek. Hell of a pick a few days in, BG.

Aye

If two bids are entered in the same minute, the higher bid counts. PP’s original bid stands.
