Yeah and they complained rightfully so.
There’s a reason everyone her is shocked by the ref’s performance. Argentinians were never carded for awful and cynical fouls.
L’équipe gave a 2/10 rating to the ref.

Nah the Argentinians behave like shit and the ref was way too lenient with them.

I’ll add Martinez threw the ball away when Tchouameni came for his PK.
Add the minute of silence in the Locker-room because Mbappe was dead.
Or Aguero insulting Camavinga. Even when winning they lack class.

I’m happy for Messi but the rest of the team deserves all the shit they can get.

And that’s why I couldn’t root for the Argentinians. Lacked class and played like thugs, complaining to the referees, diving, etc.

Wait, what? I’ll be up front and say I wanted Argentina to win, but that was simply because I wanted to see Messi win it and hopefully end the years of bullshit I read/hear about him. I’ll also add that I don’t like players on both teams and Emiliano Martinez is one of those guys. Still, did you watch the match? Rabiot’s yellow was a scissors kick on De Paul from behind with zero intention of getting the ball. That was followed up shortly thereafter by Mbappe kicking De Paul from behind out of frustration (for which he wasn’t carded). Thuram took a big dive in the box trying to win a penalty. Muani embellished big time on the penalty he drew (as I did Di Maria it should be said, but less so, and both were still penalties). The French bench was complaining to the refs multiple times from what my broadcast said.

There’s honestly no point in arguing about this. When Nicolas Frutos admits on a panel for Belgian TV that Argentinian players are taught to “fight” since they play on the streets and have to make money to feed their families and they will “do everything” to win (unsportsmanlike or otherwise) then who are we to defend their actions. Throughout the tournament there was one team that stood out when you mentioned the word “unsportsmanlike”, even casual viewers could see it (in the group stages and knockouts, especially against the Netherlands). I’m not saying other teams didn’t have their moments of “dickishness”, but one team certainly was above the rest. The whole world (at least the majority) wanted to see Messi lift the cup, but they were certainly not rooting for the others. The whole Argentina team lacked class on and off the pitch (just need to see their interviews). Evilo has covered most the moments from the final but it’s not only yesterday that has made me feel this way about them. I stand by my statement, once Messi retires, Argentina will not be powerhouse/favorite, at best they’ll be another Uruguay (very good team with top players, plays dirty, have skill, that’s all).

Messi is certainly the best player of this generation (I didn’t have the chance to see other legends play so I can’t judge who is the GOAT), his talent is unreal but I have my reasons for not rooting for him. I won’t elaborate, because it’s an opinion many will dislike, but I’ve always rooted for the players that give everything on the pitch for the team regardless of their talent and show class both on and off the pitch and are humble in real life (Kante, Mane, etc.).

I too think Argentina benefited from a lot of leniency from the refs throughout the tournament and final. The final delivered for neutrals perspective though.

Surprised that Benzema didn’t feature at all even on the bench, perhaps as a decoy? Did DD just not want the distraction?

First and foremost, I’ll say that I agree that Argentina lacked class multiple times in the tournament. Totally agree with that and I don’t like many of their players at all. I do think you’re overblowing the whole Frutos commentary though. However, I stand by the facts that I posted yesterday with regards to France and they’re playing like thugs, diving and complaining to the refs in the Final. The point is you seem to be highlighting Argentina and no one else, especially when the majority of what you’re referring to was blatantly done by France yesterday as well. You also brought up the Netherlands. Some Argentine players definitely lacked class during that encounter. However, again, you’re not citing what the Dutch did. They were literally surrounding an Argentine player as he was walking to take his shot in the penalty shootout. If I recall correctly I saw Weghorst bump into Emiliano Martinez. There’s more than that too. Does that justify the Argentine responses, and a lot of what they did was in response to the Dutch, no it does not. It is however notable context if you’re going to reference the situation.

As for Messi, he’s definitely no angel, but he’s FAR from being a devil too. If you’re going to bring up two players and one of them is Mane though…. I’ve read good things about Mane off the pitch, but I’ve seen him get nasty on the pitch more than once.

Anyway, I’m just saying if you’re going to call out one team you should call it evenly.

I put money down on Argentina before the start of the tournament. Did I mention that? JR and Xavi know but it was… quite a bit, lol. Seemingly greatly exponentially more in my head after that Saudi match. I’ve lost more in Vegas tbh. But still prob more than I should have. But if they win, I’ll be a genius and drinks are on me, boys.

Did I also mention that I also bet big on Messi winning the Golden Ball?

All I have to say is that the greatest player of all time finally got his World Cup. Well overdue.
