Looks like big changes are afoot.

One of the reasons for the slower paced season was to try and meet the release of FM26 head-on next season. However, if we are still early then it is likely that we will begin next season with FM24, again. And at that point, we would very likely not include any player updates in the database, with the exception of moving on players that have retired, passed away or are graduating from U21.
However, even in that case, we would switch to FM26 as soon as the database allows us to. And you’d be responsible for using the elevator to move any newly ineligible players up/down, if needed, so it would be recommended that you try and guesstimate the anticipated player ratings to avoid needing to pivot or potentially dig yourself out of a hole.
Case and point, I really don’t think Lamine Yamal will be U21 eligible in FM26. But that’s just one example. Eberechi Eze and Martin Zubimendi are also players I’d suspect might get a bump over 155 but that’s just speculation. You’re free to do whatever you think is best.
August 12, 2025 at 8:15 am #20478it appears they will remove all the detailed player tactical instructions in the name of simplicity. probably makes it easier for them to write the code. depending on how much you like to control your players, it could be good or bad.
fwiw I’d suggest a season 23.5. maybe using a champions league type format with combined prem/champ/u21 teams. until fm26 is ready to use.

August 12, 2025 at 11:38 am #20483I agree with james, I rather have a 23.5 instead of having to transition to a new game with new ratings which could completely throw some teams and tactics for a loop.
August 12, 2025 at 12:24 pm #20484I like that idea, as long as it’s not too much behind the scenes work for you guys. A combined team like we did before could be fun to tie us through to the release!
August 12, 2025 at 1:37 pm #20485Yeah I don’t like changing ratings and tacs mid season. I’d rather have a 23.5.
August 12, 2025 at 2:39 pm #20487You lot are no fun. ๐
If you want to do another hybrid season ala the pandemic (ironic since I remember how the majority were glad when it was over and we could return to our usual format), one important thing to note is that there is only going to be one free agency window before Season 24. And it’ll take place before the start of Season 24.
In other words, only players currently on teams would be eligible for 23.5.
And that’s not to say that I think a hybrid season is a bad idea. I just don’t mind a little chaos.
August 12, 2025 at 4:03 pm #20489For the record, I don’t like hybrid seasons either. I just like less that we start a season with FM24 and move to FM26 mid-season.
I’d be OK if we could all agree to use a patch with updated ratings. Then I’d be all in favor of starting a new normal season.-

August 12, 2025 at 11:07 pm #20493I just want what’s easy. I just hope they don’t fucking break FM26 just for the sake of change. Still annoyed they couldn’t deliver. If the recent video gaming market is any indication of what’s to come, we have a lot to be concerned about. /Shrug
August 13, 2025 at 12:55 am #20494Looks like release date could be early as late October , which isnโt far away.
Iโm for doing a transfer window pre-26 release and then waiting to do tactics and start season until 26 releases
August 13, 2025 at 1:55 am #20495Last time, the hybrid season took four months so you have an idea of the timeframe.
It’s a little more difficult trying to predict what SI is going to do. If we go by what they’ve done in the past, the game comes out in Sep/Oct. The second patch is released a month and a half later. The third patch, which we almost always use, comes out in Feb. That’s usually announced as the last patch that includes any player rating updates for that version of FM.
I remember once or twice before, we decided to use the the second patch knowing fully well that the third patch was going to come out (with updates) and force some of us into making call-ups/demotions mid-season and somehow we managed.

August 13, 2025 at 5:08 am #20501Iโm all for FM26 ASAP. If we start with FM24 and transition to FM26 mid season, so be it. I would just expect more than just an elevator prior to the transition. Whether that is the mid season window or even a third mini window, I think it just needs to allow for more than just elevator options. Also, I would say the allowable U21 players who are not in FM24 needs to be doubled.

We have 3 rounds left+cup finals
That’s 4 weeks. Then an extended window, so we should be good to go with fm26 when it comes out, no? No need to use fm24? Nor hybrid season?
Only problem is having a window without fm26 ratings. But people will adjust in the mid season window.Anyway if you feel like we need to use fm24 for half a year, we’ll do it!

January 19, 2026 at 7:45 pm #20970Question: since we’re slow-rolling and likely to start with FM26, does that means we are promoting two years worth of U21s (2002s and 2003s)? I don’t particularly care what the answer is, just trying to prepare.
January 19, 2026 at 8:36 pm #20972looks like fm26 has been updated to v26.1.2
