That last one from James reminded me of something I’ve been thinking about for this thread but keep forgetting. It’s a week-long theme of posting theme music from television series. Might be a show you love, or you just love the theme.
I’ll go with Twin Peaks first. I was in High School when the show came out. The first season was quite intriguing to me for many reasons. The setting, the music, some of the characters (especially the girls)…. It was my first introduction to David Lynch. The show was the most popular show in the country as well, though they didn’t reveal Laura Palmer’s killer until well into the second season which killed their ratings and ultimately the show. Still the show evntually came back about 25 years later.
The show’s theme was by Angelo Badalamenti who worked with U2 and a few others around the time. For me it’s a great atmospheric track and really became a part of the show. I love the introduction as well as I was always a bit enthralled with the Pacific Northwest.
February 7, 2026 at 5:53 am #21058I remember watching Miami Vice as a kid. I liked the show, but initially I thought “is this place in the United States?” A big part of that thought came from the show’s opening. And let me be clear, some of these TV themes are down to their visual as much as the audio. Still, a big part of the show was music and it started with the show’s opening theme. This one is pretty basic with seemingly just a guitar and the percussion, but it sounds like more. I also like that abrupt ending.
Extra time, I’d like to watch the series front to back again, but it’s streaming nowhere. It was on Netflix some years ago and I should have prioritized it then, but for now I’ve missed my chance. Also, this is Michael Mann. He’s not my favorite writer/director/content creator, but I like a lot of Mann’s work. Heat, Collateral, Miami Vice, The Last of the Mohicans, etc. His work was very stylized, especially the crime dramas, and Miami Vice was no exception.
February 8, 2026 at 4:56 am #21061Since I’ve been going back by decade I guess I’ll go back one more to the 70s. This is one that will probably be unexpected. The Rockford Files came out the month I was born and while it lasted 6 seasons I never saw it. It was on Netflix a few years ago and I started it, but got only a few episodes in before it was pulled. Not as hard to watch as Miami Vice (which I’d love to watch again), but I’ll still have to pay for the privilege. Anyway, it wasn’t half bad and I learned a bit more about James Garner (the actor, not the midfielder).
As for the theme, definitely a 70s sound if you ask me which I like. It seems to capture even the humorous elements of the show and I love the phone call/answering machine bit it would have at the beginning.
February 9, 2026 at 4:02 am #21062I have a lot of memories about True Detective. I remember the trailer before season one came out. I remember traveling with my father to Portland. OR and watching the episode that premiered that week while we were on vacation. I’ve see the show a few times now as well and as it’s been at least 12 months since I’ve last seen it I’m do for another viewing.
For this one is one of those “cheats” to some degree as it’s a song that I asssume was already out and the show just used it. And when I think about it lyrically, it doesn’t seem to fit as it sounds like it’s setting is out West somewhere. Still for me it works. And as I noted with other themes I mentioned, this is another one where the video adds to it (at least for me if you’ve seen the show).
February 10, 2026 at 3:40 am #21064Ripper Street isn’t the best show ever, but it’s still pretty good. Plenty of talented actors and if you like the Jack the Ripper era you might well like it.
This one is very reminiscent of the opening theme to the Guy Ritchie film Sherlock Holmes which is another theme I really like. I like this one comes to a quick end and it’s definitely one of those themes I don’t hit “skip intro” on.

Great track! Great television sequence.

I’ll assume you’ve seen it, but if you haven’t I definitely recommend it. I think it’s 8 episodes and done. Series 2 I liked as well (more than most) and Series 3 is also good. Series 4 didn’t do it for me though, but I may need to revisit it.
Another one!
Nice. Love the visual art and not a bad track. I have to watch this. Completely forgot about it even though the company I work for did a collab with the show.
February 11, 2026 at 5:20 am #21069I’ll go with Foyle’s War next. I quite like the series and I’m a big fan of the theme, especially at the beginning.
February 12, 2026 at 2:00 am #21096Funny how the intro to Curb Your Enthusiasm is so short I have post the closing credits. The opening is maybe the first 5 seconds or so of this clip. Still, it’s great because it really suits the show (for me anyway) and just hearing it before a new episode would make me laugh.
And since this clip showed up I’ll throw it in.
February 12, 2026 at 11:21 pm #21128February 21, 2026 at 8:50 pm #21192this was the song at the end of the last episode of breaking bad. perfect.
February 22, 2026 at 6:52 am #21197As I noted in the first page of this thread, big fan of The Doors. They have a helluva catalog for only so many albums and a relatively short-lived run. Going with a bit of a deeper cut today and I have so many other tracks I like that I could post. Anyway, I remember liking this one the first time I heard it in High School. Not their best track by any stretch, but I still like it.

February 23, 2026 at 6:07 am #21200I declare this Big 80s Week. For me “big 80s” has a certain connotation, but let’s just open it up to 1980s anything. Having grown up in the 80s I was there for all of it and still like a lot of 80s musics. And since it’s Big 80s I’ll go with Big Country. For some reason I always thought they were from Australia, but apparently they’re Scots. Anyway, a classic 80s track.
